KDE4 sets new release date.
KDE has set its release date to January 11th 2008 for KDE4.
for those of you who are used to KDE3.x and its many subsystems. heres an interesting blog post with any information on the news sub-systems you’ll be encountering Link .
For some of you out there, this pushing the final release date back was excepted. It was first set for October 2007 then pushed to December 2007. January 2008 sounds as good a time as any.
The design changes from KDE 3.x to 4 are quite big, some of them sound quite interesting.
Plasma is a buzz word that been knocking about lately. Plasma is the replacement for Kicker (the ‘task bar’ in KDE), Superkaramba (the widget tool in KDE) and sections of kdesktop (the desktop shell)
Other interesting programs include;
Okular; a universal document viewer replacing KPDF and a few other programs.
Konqueror and Dolphin; KDE4 will now include 2 file managers, Konqueror the Swiss Army Knife of graphical file management… and Dolphin, which isn’t….
I ‘m going to wait until January till I pass judgment. Ether way i’m quite happy with KDE3. 5.7
