WelcomeEpic-Con NewsletterDecemberEPIC-CON 2010 UpdatesEpic Con will take place on the 13th and 14th of February 2010. Please update your calendars, we don't want you to miss it. In other news the guests page has been updated, so check it out for this years appearances. Events-wise we have our Torture room for those of you who really like punishing yourself with bad movies. If you're new to all this we can help too, with our Intro room, where lighter examples of the genre will be on show to ease you in. Finally we'll have a Manga workshop for those who want to combine budding artistic skills and a love of japanese media. More updates are on the way as we ramp up so keep an eye on the site or send us an email if you need help. Our forums are here so drop in and say hello. JuneEPIC-CON 2010!!! We plan on having the Epic Con begin on Friday the 19th however we would like people to post on our boards if they can make it. If we have enough people who want to show up on Friday we can start planing events and book rooms. Epic Con dates are the 20-21 on the NUIM campus. See you all there! AprilEPIC-CON 2009!!! Thank you all for showing your support and coming!! Thanks to you we had the first covention to start in the first year and even make a profit!! No one else can say that!! Over 120 people showed up! Omega was awarded the Best Society Event this year as well. That's all thanks to you! FebruaryRight, guys, another update! First of all, lets announce that members of other sci-ci, anime, fantasy, or comic societies get a discount for a weekend ticket. Normally weekend tickets are 8 euro, with the discount they’ll be 5. Of course, we will need proof that you’re a member of a society, so get your society president to send us an email with your name. Our email address is nuim.omega@gmail.com. You can email us with any other inquiries, of course. Accommodation details can be found at www.maynoothcampus.com - this is on campus accommodation, and should probably be booked in advance if you wish. Of course you can show up on the day, but we can’t guarantee you’ll get a room. One of our speakers has changed - we now have John Mitchel giving a talk on Sci-Fi B movies from the 1950s, instead of Chris Morash talking about H.G. Wells. As well, we’ve got another talk scheduled about Warfare in Space. We’ve also updated our competitions - we’re only going to run two due to time considerations. One is an art competition - the only rule is submissions must be sensible: no five foot tall sculptures please! Anything else is okay. Our other competition is the Torture Room. In this room we will be showing the most horrible, most cringeworthy films ever made. Dungeons and Dragons 2. Mortal Kombat 2. Anything with Steven Seagal. People entering this pit of hell will be timed to see how long they last. The person who lasts the longest will get a well-deserved prize. Ok, that’s all for now. We’ll keep you updated! |
