This page provides details of all Minds related events, past and future. As can be seen below Minds regularily holds interesting talks on various aspects of Computer Science, as well as tutorials and gaming events.
It's cold outside. Very cold. No one wants to go outside. So we should cancel the weekly Minds meeting?
Wrong!
We can sign into the Minds IRC server(chatroom) and talk there. Who knows what we will be talking about. We can decide tomorrow. Maybe some admin training could be done, maybe we could share links for youtube videos of cats.
If you don't know how to access the Minds IRC server. Contact us on facebook or at admins@minds.nuim.ie .
Have something cool that your dying to talk about? Here's your opportunity,
Mindstorm is a sort of Show and Tell session where anyone can stand up and talk about anything, like a project your working on, a web app you've been using and you think is awesome, a new technology that your excited about , some code or library's that you've been playing with, etc.
the only limit is your own imagination.
Each talk should last about 5 - 10 minutes and you can do as many demonstrations as you like.
And depending on how we're set for time, we might show an episode of the IT Crowd before we retire to the local public house.
Last Week we had a lot of fun playing with some of Minds ancient hardware, to our surprise we discovered that some of the machines not only switched on in the first place, but that they had Operating Systems installed and still had running BIOS clocks. Very Strange.
So this week we'll try to recover data from these relics and discover what they were used for. and try as well to get the other machines going.
Don't worry if you weren't here last week, you'll soon catch up. and as always once we've had our fun, we might retire to a local public house.
Minds has a small stack of old P1 machines that have been gathering dust, so lets see if we can get a few of them working once more and we'll see what fun stuff that we can do with them.
They might be old and in terms of computational horsepower there more like donkeys then stallions, but we might be able to find a good use for them.
And as usual, we might retire to a local public house afterwards.
Note that we are meeting 6.30pm, a little earlier that usual...There is a reason.
We were thinking for this week:
- We solve any issues anyone is still having accessing IRC and Newsgroups.
- We talk about how to progress with building the server Bipolar
AND
- We enter the karaoke competition in the SU bar at 7.30pm!!
Have you got your karaoke cape ready?
A get together to plan out our needs in terms of hardware for the building of a server. All are welcome.
Followed by the screening of the movie "Hackers" to mark its 15th anniversary.refreshments will be served and we might retire to a local public house afterwards.
We will give an hour or so for Minds101 and then we will have a screening of the movie Hackers. For those who are around after that we will be going to the pub for a few drinks.
Minds101 is an introductory workshop on how to use minds. We will show you how to login and use some of the Minds services. If we don't get everything covered we will hold another workshop again. Hopefully at the end we will all be chatting in IRC, making plans on newsgroups and hosting our own websites and blogs. We hope to get a room for this where everyone can try out everything for themselves on a computer.
A young boy is arrested by the US Secret Service for writing a computer virus and is banned from using a computer until his 18th birthday. Years later, he and his new-found friends discover a plot to unleash a dangerous computer virus, but they must use their computer skills to find the evidence while being pursued by the Secret Service and the evil computer genius behind the virus.
We are meeting up on Tuesday evening for a quick talk about what we should do for the year. Then there will be pizza and an episode of IT Crowd. For those of you who are still around after that maybe we can enter a Minds team into the pub quiz in Roost.
